There is so much peace in being alone. I have found this to be true throughout my life because I’m blessed with being an introvert.

However, this doesn’t mean all hope is lost for extroverts when it comes to finding peace in singlehood. I believe everyone should be happy with themselves before finding happiness with others.

Even introverts can find this difficult at times. Self esteem definitely comes to play when discussing relationships with others.

We are all guilty of losing ourselves to relationships at least once in our lives. There is no shame in admitting that we all want love at some point.

However, we always must first find love within ourselves. We have to be at least comfortable and happy being alone before we can expect happiness with someone else.

This requires something I refer to as silence therapy. Forcing myself to hear my own thoughts alone in a quiet room is difficult.

Thoughts go everywhere they possibly can and not always to positive places. Journaling is key for a moment like this.

Writing every thought that comes to mind isn’t as helpful as only writing the ones that stand out. Then going back later that evening and reading them.

We can surprise ourselves sometimes. When we see our thoughts written on paper sometimes they all seem ridiculous instead of threatening.

The only way to adapt to being happily alone is to get through what makes it so difficult. In time we all learn to appreciate and love small parts about ourselves.

We look forward to the silence after a while. It takes time to be alone happily.

The peace is so valuable that it’s difficult for people who are single for long periods of time to come out of it.

He hates it! He absolutely despises being forced to rush around for long periods of time while dragging his carry-on luggage behind.

It’s the journey we slowly are adapting to and after these years are still finding new ways to improve. Our goal is to not rush around so much while we are traveling.

There is always a rush and even as minimalists, we still find ourselves carrying too many things! I believe there are habits we have to instill so that we aren’t as rushed.

For example, arrive three hours earlier than our flight takes off, or maybe even leave everything at home we don’t need. Buy all the remaining diapers we need abroad and leave them behind when we leave.

Small habits over time will make a large difference. Maybe I don’t want to make extra room in our luggage for all thirty diapers that we have left in our bag.

Perhaps I can take only what we need for that moment and leave the baggage behind. This includes emotionally as well.

Thinking about all the ways our careers can break while we are waiting at our terminal is not going to change anything except hinder the experience our families are having in that moment due to our mental distractions.

This is why my son hates traveling – it’s exhausting work if we aren’t prepared or careful to not instill habits ahead of time.

If ever I decide to cheat and pack a little extra next journey, he could potentially lose out on an experience because he will have to lug that much more with him!

I choose to live light while we travel, and in doing so my son likes it more.

The more items we own it becomes that much more difficult to manage them. Clutter in our surroundings means a cluttered mind.

My goal with minimalism stretches farther than just what I own, but it’s a great place to start!

Thinking of everything I need in my home to bring me comfort hinders what I could be spending my energy and time on, which is either expanding my career or even experiencing life.

Experiences are amongst the best things to spend our money and time on. Instead of owning over twenty pairs of shoes or down shirts I choose this lifestyle.

I cut out all that didn’t serve me. I started years ago with members in my life which included friends and even family members that didn’t have my best interest in mind.

Even after all of this time, it’s the items that seem to still find their way into my home. It seems I’m always at the nearest donation center, even though I swear I don’t even buy this much stuff!

Every week I do a simple cleanse for everything and everyone in my life. Do they bring me joy and are they good for my greater good?

I love friends especially that provide me with the most healthy criticism and can tell me something I need to hear, not only ones that make me laugh.

I also enjoy items that provide more than one purpose. Such as my son’s tablet, for example. This remains his television sometimes and his gaming center. This comes in handy most when we travel.

However, there are items that serve no purpose but seem to always end up in my shopping cart. I have to willfully remind myself they aren’t needed. These include clothes that are trending currently, or hats for next season when we already have something similar.

Being prepared is one thing, but owning too much is different! We can be prepared within reason. We don’t need more than three hats per person, for example.

Using discernment for what is healthy in my home and life and what I could survive without. This line is not difficult to see, sometimes we just don’t want to do what must be done in order to have a happier and lighter life.

Because cutting these things from our lives does indeed create a lighter life, speaking from experience. If we could all make that leap and achieve this lifestyle then I believe everyone would be that much happier, but so few people actually can achieve this.

I believe that every person has the ability to, only if we could just take the first couple of steps.

Grabbing a container and throwing everything we haven’t used in the past three to six months, or anything without purpose, and simply throwing it all in. Distance ourselves from friends or family that make you feel bad about yourself or drain your energy.

This is sometimes all that is required of us to be that much happier. I enjoy the life I have with my son and this peace started with decluttering my life and home.

When I want to fill a hole that I sometimes feel, I recognise it’s most likely boredom and I create an experience. It always does the trick!
